Selfsame

Hailing from the coastal towns of Southend and Brighton, UK, Looseleaf quietly emerges as a promising presence in the alternative/emo scene. Influenced by the likes of Balance and Composure, Title Fight, and Movements, they merge modern emo with shoegaze and alternative rock elements to create heavy-hitting, yet melodic soundscapes. The band will be releasing their sophomore EP titled Selfsame on June 19, 2024, consisting of 7 new tracks that guide listeners through a contemplative journey. The collection of songs explores themes of shame, addiction, and the intricate nuances of familial bonds, or the absence thereof. 'Selfsame' serves as a subdued commentary on the cognitive dissonance inherent in the pursuit of breaking generational cycles. Musically, the songs have a melancholy weight to them, while showcasing distortion soaked guitars and hard-hitting beats, while maintaining a melodic sensibility, big harmonies and hooks to boot. Looseleaf join a newer crop of bands emerging from the UK alongside bands like Oversize, Mercury, Mirror Talk, and Split Chain, and are sure to make their mark on the local music scene with their new EP. Fans of Basement, Balance and Composure, and Movements should enjoy their emotionally charged guitar driven alternative rock music and should definitely check this out ASAP. In the meantime, you can stream the three previously released singles below from the forthcoming EP. Looseleaf, consisting of members Lewis Chapman (Guitar/Vocals) and Dan Young (Drums/Vocals) released their debut EP 'Grey and Overgrown' in 2020 and have been playing shows across the UK since then, and with their latest effort, you can hear the continued progress in their songwriting.
