October 11, 2019Antwerp-based outfit Newmoon have toned down the feedback of their acclaimed debut album ‘Space’ and turned up the melody for their brand new full-length ‘Nothing Hurts Forever’, due Friday 11th October via [PIAS] Recordings. Thunderously dreamy and reminiscent of Ride, My Bloody Valentine, A Place To Bury Strangers, their latest cut was recorded in London by producer Andy Savours (The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Dream Wife, Sorry) and weaves a patchwork of glimmering indie resonance onto a bedrock of ecstatic, crunchy guitar-pop.
Announcing today via their shimmering, summer indie single 'Collide Into Me' which can be streamed below, the band offers us a fatalistic view at those chance meetings outside of closing 3am bars. The brief moment when you connect with other barflies and conversations are more about emotion and less about substance, before the next day's hangover erases your new magical memories.
Of the sound the band states "it was the first song on this album that felt like we were stepping into a direction we hadn't explored before. It felt freeing to try and arrange music that was more about the melody and songwriting, and less about noise and feedback. It definitely pushed us further out of our comfort zone and towards something that felt very natural for us.”

Newmoon, New LP! Can't wait!
I've liked Belgium's Newmoon ever since I first heard the single Helium and they sent me an advance of their debut LP 'Space' to review. I covered that LP on our old site TheMusicTheMessage and really dug their brand of wall of guitars shoegaze/dreampop mixed with post-rock and post-punk / psychadelia. With a number of bands bringing the sounds of Ride, My Bloody Valentine, Swervedriver and shoegaze of the early 90s back (including the original bands re-emerging themselves), I was curious to see what Newmoon would bring with their upcoming effort, "Nothing Hurts Forever" and how they would progress. With the singles released so far, it sounds like Newmoon has stripped back some of the noise and wall of guitars on their previous efforts and have replaced it with more emphasis on melody (both vocal and guitar) and catchy hooks. I'm loving the new singles, especially "In Harmony" which is more remiscent of newer school dream pop / jangly emoish indie-rock in the vein of Turnover (Peripheral Vision era) and Jaws (Simplicity era), while still having elements of bands like Ride and MBV. These singles have been stuck in my head since I've heard them, so I can't wait to hear them in context with the rest of the LP. Be on the lookout for this album when it drops October 11th.
