Big Hand

St. Louis melodic hardcore/alt-rockers Squint have released their new LP titled "Big Hand" on October 25, 2024 via Sunday Drive Records. Big Hand—in reference to the constant moving of time on a clock—can gather a sense of anxiety, excitement, hope and hopelessness. In a more literal sense, a big hand can pack a punch, swell, break and recover. The St. Louis hardcore-punk band, Squint render their perspective through their debut album, Big Hand, by a summation of decades of influences of punk, hardcore, alternative and art-rock. With the collaboration of producer Jon Markson (Samiam, Drain, The Story So Far) and much touring, Squint has developed their sound & presence to their fullest potential. Squint started in fall of 2021, featuring various members from Missouri bands Time and Pressure, New Lives, Soul Craft and Choir Vandals. The band has a nice palette of sounds ranging from hardcore to alternative/indie rock. Largely influenced by a shared liking of Rites of Spring and Turning Point, Squint take the sound of melodic-leaning hardcore and are able to put their own spin on it with fuzzed-out guitars and big riffs—recalling tones heard from bands like Archers of Loaf, Seaweed and Sugar and similar to modern day bands like Drug Church, Militarie Gun and Public Opinion.
