Trauma Ray release heavy new single "Bardo" from forthcoming LP
trauma ray have mastered shoegaze’s complexity, intensity, and expressive devastation. Their powerful new single “Bardo” is eerie, veering between noisy one string bends and surging headbang, mapping a middle ground between Unwound and nu-metal. trauma ray guitarist Jonathan Perez tells, “Bardo is the in-between. Whether that’s life or death, or a purgatory. It’s about being stuck in between one phase and the next. When you can feel the past fading and yet you can't quite see the path to the future either.” Check out the 3rd single from the forthcoming LP below, one of Trauma Ray's best and heaviest songs to date, the perfect blend of 90s inspired shoegaze, grunge, nu-metal and post-hardcore. Fans of Narrow Head, Deftones, Nothing and Soul Blind should take note.
Texas shoegazers Trauma Ray release 2nd single "Spectre" from debut LP Chameleon due late October
Today Trauma Ray release their slowcore, introspective dirge, “Spectre”. Its tracing chords are met with hymnal lyrics from vocalist Uri Avila. Of the single he tells, “I think a lot of us have our own ghosts we refuse to part with. This song is supposed to haunt you. To help you internalize and break down your own inability to let go of the things or the people that aren’t good for you. The perspective of the ‘Spectre’ wonders why you won’t push it away after it’s caused so much pain. It wants you to heal. It wants to be left alone. It’s tired and wishes to move on, but you won’t let it. I wrote these lyrics with the hope that listeners struggling with this kind of emotion can find the strength to move forward.”
“Spectre” is the follow up single to last month’s debut “Bishop” which received high acclaim from The FADER, Stereogum, Consequence (Heavy Song of the Week), Brooklyn Vegan, New Noise and more. It’s the second preview into their first full-length album Chameleon which sees its release on Dais Records on October 25. Watch the video created by Will McCarthy below.
Texas shoegazers Trauma Ray have announced their debut LP "Chameleon" set for release on October 25, 2024 via Dais Records. The album follows a series of EP's containing 12 brand new tracks continuing their three guitar attack, a force to behold, alternately surging, savage and spectral, drenched in precision distortion. The core songwriting duo of Uriel Avila and Jonathan Perez have expanded and refined the project’s vision and craft with the songs on their new LP. Rounded out by bassist Darren Baun, drummer Nicholas Bobotas, and guitarist Coleman Pruitt, the album both synthesizes and transcends its influences, a stormy fusion of downer hooks, apocalyptic beauty, and bulldozer riffs. Lead single “Bishop”, available on streaming platforms now, perfectly encapsulates trauma ray’s depth and dimension, ripping out of the gate with “the biggest, baddest, saddest wall of sound.” Lyrics about being burnt at the stake and “tossed in the flame” dance above a stop-start assault of precision distortion, eventually expanding into a lush, heavy, sorrowful end coda. Uri tells, “I grew up in a pretty religious setting. Sin, guilt, and penance have always been themes that have stuck with me since a very young age. The fear of hell and fire was instilled in me when I was in my most malleable state and the lyrics to this song tie to that period of my life."
